-First couple weeks --
I was still recovering from my foot surgery and wearing the lovely "Darth Vader boot". I was able to start weaning myself out of the boot and into shoes with support. I still occasionally put the boot on when my foot gets extra tired. I really hate it, but it definitely provides major support to give my tired and worn out foot bones some relief.
July 10th and 11th -- Ward Campout
The Yale Ward Campout was held July 10th and 11th. I had tons of help and had actually delegated the whole thing, which isn't an easy thing for me to do! I wasn't sure if I would be on crutches or not. I was able to go wearing my boot, however we didn't spend the night this year. The camp was held up Big Cottonwood Canyon at The Spruces campground. It's a beautiful facility and it was a lovely evening. We had about 120 people for dinner and everything went well for the overnight campers.
July 21st
My sweet dad, who is a very special Grandpa Kunz, had some surgery to have a hernia repaired. He did great with the surgery. They amazingly hook up his heart pacemaker to an external machine so they can turn it off during the surgery. I was thankful they were able to get it going again. He has had a few hic-ups and set-backs since after the surgery, however, he is working closely with his good doctors to get him back on his feet again.
This is a cute picture of Grandpa and Grandma Kunz at the hospital the morning our Logan Norup Jensen was born. Logan has grown a little since he is now 6'1" tall. Grandpa Kunz has such a special love for all of his children, grand-children and great grand-children. Logan is the youngest grandson in the family.
July 27th through August 1st.
Logan's scout troop went on a canoe trip up in the Grand Tetons. They were gone the whole week. It was a lot of work to get Logan all set to go. Everything had to be waterproof or in a waterproof bag. He had to take all of his own food and it all had to be freeze-dried because there were reports of bears in the area they were camping. We have these amazing scout leaders in or ward. Who takes 8 scouts on a canoe trip for 5 nights!?!? I am so very thankful they do though. They have provided opportunities for Logan that are life-changing experiences for him.
They had a great time! Logan loves to camp. He earned several merit badges. When he finished working on his kayaking merit badge, the water was so cold and he started to go into hypothermia. Fortunately, not only is his leader a scout leader but is also a doctor. They were able to get Logan out of his wet clothes, got him to stop shivering, and were able to warm him up with some hot chocolate. Apparently his lips were starting to turn blue and he was at the point that he wasn't feeling cold anymore. So the boys on the trip also got a first hand experience on what to do when someone gets hypothermia. While I get concerned for Logan, his leaders are so great and I know they will always take good care of him.
Logan was very tired and very dirty when they came home. He had tons of fun stories about the trip and the animals and scenery they saw. They camped each night in a different spot and Logan did great getting all his stuff together each day. He even boiled water and cooked his own food!
They ended up arriving in SLC around 12:30 AM on Saturday morning. They had prayed that they would get home safely, and sure enough they made it home, right to our house, and then the tire on the truck totally blew out. It was truly a miracle they were able to drive that far home and the tire held the whole way until they made it safely. Bill was able to get Triple AAA to come help with the tire and was right there working with him to get it all fixed up.
Thanks so much to all the incredible scout leaders for your guidance, direction and patience. Thanks so much to my wonderful husband Bill who is such a great step-dad to Logan. He totally helps and supports him with what he needs to be a great Boy Scout right to the very end when he has to crawl under the truck with the triple A guy, in the gutter, at 1:00 AM to help fix the flat.
